What is COMPARE-UF?

  • The Comparing Options for Management: Patient Centered Results for Uterine Fibroids (COMPARE-UF) is a voluntary registry of 10,000 women with uterine fibroids that seeks to answer questions that matter most to patients with fibroids when considering the pros and cons of different treatment options.
  • To help women make treatment decisions, COMPARE-UF will collect information from participants about their medical history, planned and previous treatment for their fibroids, current symptoms, and quality of life.

What does COMPARE-UF involve?

  • Women will be recruited from 9 clinical centers across the United States. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will serve as 1 of the 9 recruitment sites and a diverse group of women will be recruited from central North Carolina and its surrounding areas.
  • All women in COMPARE-UF will have fibroids formally diagnosed by a doctor through medical imaging and all treatment decisions will be made by the patient and her clinician.
  • COMPARE-UF will: 1) compare different management options’ impact on symptom relief; 2) compare different management options’ impact on reproductive function; and 3) compare the effectiveness of the different management options among subgroups of patients, taking into account patient needs and treatment option preferences.
  • Data will be collected from patients immediately prior to treatment determination and post-treatment (over the course of 5 years). The data collected will include procedural details (if applicable) and annual patient reported outcomes, including symptom relief, reproductive function, and quality of life.
  • Enrollment in COMPARE-UF will be launched in the fall of 2015.
